On 8 Nov 2025 we visited Vishwashanti Niketan/Group Home Rehabilitation Complex, aboard for 50 special children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ‘children’ (as called by care-takers of this ‘Niketan or Ashram’) between the age of 21 and 55 years were very special and had no hatred, jealousy, and impurity in mind. The visit gave us a great insight on how life for the less fortunate would be. It was a heartbreaking and yet heartening experience to meet and interact with the special children as well as the trustees and care-givers of these children. While it was a bit of distressing feeling we experienced to see that none of the children were able to manage by themselves, we were inspired at the sincerity, commitment and the dedication observed in the office bearers and care-takers of Karnataka Parents’ Association (KPAMRC) who run the Rehabilitation Complex since 1978.
There were 27 care-givers who were managing 50 special children, 24/7; Vishwashanti Niketan had a separate kitchen cum dining hall, playground and recreation facility, a van for transportation for the in-mates. KPAMRC also runs a day-care center where 25 neighbouring children with similar disabilities take shelter and learn during day-time. The Van owned and maintained by the Rehabilitation Complex picks and drops such children every day.
Another jewel in the crown of KPAMRC was the pioneering coaching program they had been providing to trainer. We were informed that Diploma and vocational programs were being offered in different disciplines such as Specific Learning Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Care Givers Certificate Course;
Along with other office bears and staff of KPAMRC, Sri Prakash M G, Treasurer (who happened to be long-time friend of our SPV Seva Trust) who took for a trip at Vishwashanti Niketan. He mentioned that over 5000 special educators graduated from KPAMRC were being working in different special schools and institutions across the country.
Vishwashanti Niketan also constructed a Parents Block in the complex with facility for parents to stay for few days every year.
We were also moved to receive snacks, coffee and tea and whole-hearted hospitality from office bearers and staff of Vishwashanti Niketan. Sri Prakash arranged for a gathering in the special auditorium constructed in the complex. He gave briefings on their activities and progress made over last 47 years with the donations received from philanthropists and corporate bodies. We thanked all the office bearers for providing us an opportunity to visit Vishwashanti Niketan and for the hospitality extended to us. We expressed that KPAMRC which has received many national level awards deserves more recognition and financial assistance from all around. We departed from Vishwashanti Niketan after over two hours useful visit; we gave them a token of our help of Rs.65,000 in cash and kind.
